President Biden tests positive for COVID

President Biden tested positive for a rebound case of COVID-19 on Saturday morning after being treated with Paxlovid, the presidential physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a letter.

The so-called “rebound” COVID-19 positivity was “observed in a small percentage of patients treated with Paxlovid,” the doctor said.

Biden has experienced “no reemergence of symptoms, and continues to feel quite well” and will, as a result, not resume treatment, the White House said. However, given his position antigen test, he will reinitiate strict isolation procedures.

“This being the case, there is no reason to reinitiate treatment at this time, but we will obviously continue close observation,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said.

O’Connor said the President tested negative on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning and Friday morning before testing positive on Saturday morning which represents “rebound” COVID-19 positivity.

“This happens with a small minority of folks,” Biden tweeted. “I’ve got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me. I’m still at work, and will be back on the road soon.”
