In a resolute display of solidarity, the U.S. military is taking decisive steps to bolster its support for Israel amidst fighting and bombardment in Israel and Gaza following the surprise attack by Hamas militant group which escalated violence in the region.

This comprehensive support involves the deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group, military aircraft, and the immediate supply of munitions and military provisions.

The substantial military deployment underscores the United States’ commitment to preventing any further escalation of the conflict across the region. This military support comes as the Israeli government has officially declared a state of war and approved significant military actions aimed at retaliating against Hamas.

U.S. bolsters support for Israel amid escalating conflict

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that he had directed the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to go to the eastern Mediterranean. The group includes the carrier, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, and four Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers.

“We have also taken steps to augment U.S. Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region,” he said. “In addition, the United States government will be rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions. The first security assistance will begin moving today and arriving in the coming days.”

U.S. military support for Israel

In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, the United States is reinforcing its support for Israel with a series of strategic moves. Here is a concise breakdown of the key developments:

Deployment of Naval Assets

  • USS Gerald R. Ford: The U.S. is sending its most advanced aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Eastern Mediterranean. This formidable carrier is accompanied by a guided missile cruiser and four guided missile destroyers.
  • Additional Naval Presence: In addition to the USS Ford, the U.S. is dispatching the USS Normandy, a guided missile cruiser, and several destroyers including the USS Thomas Hudner, USS Ramage, USS Carney, and USS Roosevelt.

Fighter Jets

  • The U.S. is bolstering its Air Force presence in the region with F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons. These deployments aim to enhance Israel’s defense capabilities.

Munitions Supply

  • U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has announced the provision of munitions to Israel. While specific details are not disclosed, it is believed that Israel has requested interceptors and precision-guided munitions, with a focus on reinforcing its Iron Dome defense system.

The swift and robust response comes in the wake of deadly attacks by Hamas and escalating violence in the region. U.S. President Joe Biden has reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for its closest ally in the Middle East.

The deployment of naval assets and military supplies is aimed at deterring further regional expansion of the conflict. While some question the need for such a significant U.S. military presence, it underscores Washington’s commitment to Israel’s security and stability during these turbulent times.

9 Americans killed in Israel

The U.S. State Department said at least nine American citizens have been killed in the Hamas attack on Israel. The department said that an undetermined number of American citizens remain unaccounted for.

The unprecedented attack by Hamas and Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes have left more than 1,300 dead and thousands wounded on both sides. More than 800 Israelis and around 500 Palestinians have been killed amid heavy fighting and bombardment in Israel and Gaza following the largest attack by the Palestinian armed group Hamas against Israel in decades.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the authorities would impose a total blockade on the Gaza Strip, cutting electricity and blocking food and fuel supplies as part of “a complete siege” on the Hamas-run enclave.
